1.3 million crew days, and counting
A few years ago we published a short post, with a bottle of champagne on it, to mark 100,000 crew and technician days logged in CrewSmart. It felt like a lot at the time. This week the live counter on our homepage reads 1,304,618.
A crew day is one person, on one vessel or one project, for one day, recorded in CrewSmart rather than on a whiteboard or a spreadsheet. Behind each one is a timesheet, a rest-hours record and an employment profile that did not need to be keyed in twice. Multiply that by 1.3 million and it starts to describe an industry's worth of work that is now written down properly.
What else the counter says
Crew days are the headline, but the other numbers from the platform today tell the same story from different angles:
- 287,000 vessel days with a complete record: checks, defects, drills and location, kept for the auditor.
- 14,400 crew and technicians with one live profile, every certificate attached, every vessel they have sailed on.
- 1,480 vessels whose certification, maintenance and safety records are in one place.
- 487,000 actions raised and closed through a procedure, each with an owner and an audit trail.
- 169,000 certificates, vessel and personal, that will not expire unnoticed.
None of these are our numbers. They belong to the operators who put the data in, and they are growing by the day: the homepage counters are read live from the platform, not typed in by us.
Why it matters now
Workboat Code 3 asks every certificated vessel to have a safety management system that is implemented and operational by 13 December 2026. The hard part of that is not writing the procedures; it is being able to show they were followed. 1.3 million crew days and 487,000 closed actions are what that evidence looks like at scale: created on the boat, as part of the day's work, by the people doing it.
Thank you
To every skipper, engineer, technician and office team who has logged a day, raised a defect or signed off a check in CrewSmart: thank you. Nearly everything we have built has come from a conversation with one of you. The next milestone is some way off, but we will open another bottle when we get there.
