CrewSmart is now integrated with Slack.

Organisations that use Slack’s instant messaging service now have new functionality right at their fingertips.

If you’re already a Slack user, you’re probably familiar with the platform’s Slash Commands. Slash Commands are initiated from the message box in Slack and enable the user to complete tasks or retrieve information from integrated third parties by entering just a simple shortcut demand.

That’s why we’ve developed the ‘/locate’ slash command, enabling organisations to retrieve information on the whereabouts of a particular crew member or vessel instantly.

This feature enables you to find out important details about your fleet and individual crew members quickly, efficiently, and all as part of your current CrewSmart subscription.

Having quick access to this level of data is an invaluable security tool and will save your team time and energy should a crew member need to be contacted in an emergency.

How it works:

And works just like any other slash command on Slack. Let’s say, for example, you are looking to locate an individual crew member called Donald.

Type ‘/locate Donald’ into your message bar on slack, then press Enter.

Within moments, CrewSmart will send the crew member’s location any recorded contact details and whether they are currently deployed on a shipping vessel straight to your Slack channel.

Integrating CrewSmart with your Slack account

To benefit from this feature, go to Admin > API in your Slack account so you can add the CrewSmart integration.

Follow the step-by-step instructions to allow CrewSmart to communicate with Slack.

Once this process is complete, you’ll be able to use Slack to retrieve information on a particular vessel or crew member that are stored in your CrewSmart account.

The /locate command is the first step in a much wider expansion plan, so watch this space for further developments in our Slack integration strategy.
